Berliner Philharmonie

If you are planning a visit to Berlin, you will definitely not be able to avoid the Berlin Philharmonie. Since the old Berlin Philharmonic was destroyed in World War II, a new Philharmonic had to be built afterwards. This was completed in 1963 according to plans by Hans Scharoun. Famous conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado and Sir Simon Rattle have helped the Berlin Philharmonic achieve a worldwide reputation in recent decades. The outstanding acoustics were perfectly calculated during the planning stage and are still the standard by which other philharmonic orchestras measure themselves. The Berlin Philharmonic has a built-in organ with 91 registers. Thanks to the so-called “vineyard architecture”, you have a very good view of the stage almost everywhere.

The evangelical church, popularly known as the hollow tooth, rings 5 heavy bells across Kurfürstendamm and, with its neo-Romanesque architecture, forms the focal point between the Bikinihaus, the Zoopalast and the Waldorf Astoria.
